Retouching is a term that describes the process of digitally editing and enhancing images. Digital retouching is not just a tool but an art form used by Photographers and Editors to create their individual style of photography. Using advanced techniques during editing can turn a raw image into a beautiful one*. All images that leave the studio are retouched so as to maintain the highest standard of work possible. We offer three levels of retouching to suit a client’s needs;
A basic retouch involves cropping the image, correcting colour and contrast and switching the image to black and white or sepia if desired. Any flaws that detract the eye from the main focus of the shot are removed. These may be creases or tears in a backdrop, visible lighting equipment and bruising or marks on the face or body.
A standard retouch involves cropping the image, correcting colour and contrast and switching the image to black and white or sepia if desired. All flaws that detract the eye from the main focus are removed. Skin tone and texture are evened out and blemishes are removed. Redness is corrected. Deep wrinkles and lines are softened, eyes and teeth are whitened and stray hairs are removed. Any visible cellulite is removed and legs are smoothed and shaped. Facial contours such as jawline, neck and chin may be sculpted and enhanced if requested. Flaws, blemishes and imperfections are removed but identifying features such as freckles or moles are kept unless their removal is requested. Scarring can be removed or reduced. Skin is lightly airbrushed to a soft, smooth finish.
Advanced retouching is an option for clients with specific requirements. Examples of advanced retouching are turning an image to black and white but keeping an element coloured such as red lips or pink shoes and superimposing elements onto the image such as adding butterfly wings or lighting effects. Some reconstructive work such as fixing dental work, removing braces or tattoos is also possible. Another element of advanced retouching is body sculpting. This is where the body contours such as hips, thighs, stomach and breasts are lifted, smoothed and enhanced. Artistic finishes are also an option.
It is important to note that advanced retouching can incur additional fees.
*Some aspects of an image cannot be corrected. Examples of these include regrowth or poorly coloured hair, creases on clothing and patterns such as stripes and fishnet stockings.
